Summary, in one sentence
Phreep does not send any of your health, band, or personal data off your phone. Everything lives on your device.
What data Phreep handles
When you use Phreep with your fitness band, the app handles:
- Heart rate, heart-rate variability, accelerometer, and other sensor readings streamed from your band over Bluetooth.
- Band identity: the Bluetooth MAC address and serial number of your band, so Phreep can reconnect to it.
- Sleep, recovery, strain, workout, and journal records you produce by wearing the band and using the app.
- Profile settings you enter (name, age, sex, weight, step goal) used to personalise calculations.
- Purchase receipt if you buy Phreep Pro, delivered by Google Play and stored locally so the app knows you have access.
Where data goes
- Nowhere outside your phone. Phreep does not operate a cloud backend. The app has no account system and does not make network calls to Phreep-controlled servers.
- Your encrypted Google backup — unless you disable auto-backup in Android Settings, your profile preferences may be backed up to Google Drive under your Google account. The health database and band MAC address are explicitly excluded from backup.
- Health Connect — if you turn on the "Sync to Health Connect" option, Phreep writes heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep records into Health Connect on your device. You control what happens next via Health Connect's own permission screen.
- Google Play — when you buy Phreep Pro, Google Play processes the payment and issues a receipt. Phreep never sees your payment details. Google's privacy policy applies to the purchase itself.
Permissions Phreep requests and why
- Bluetooth scan, connect — find and talk to your band.
- Notification posting — show the "overnight capture running" notification.
- Wake lock, foreground service — keep the Bluetooth connection alive while your phone sleeps.
- Exact alarm — fire your in-app wake alarm at the scheduled time.
- Health Connect (write) — optional; only requested if you turn on the sync toggle.
- Location (Android 11 and below only) — required by the OS for Bluetooth scanning on old Android versions.
Data retention
Phreep keeps your data in two layers:
- Raw sensor samples (1 Hz HR, beat-to-beat RR intervals, accelerometer): retained for 90 days in their full-resolution form. Beyond 90 days the per-sample rows are rolled up into one-minute summaries and the raw rows deleted.
- Daily summaries (recovery, strain, sleep, workouts, journal entries, baselines): retained indefinitely as long as the app is installed.
You can delete everything at any time via Android Settings → Apps → Phreep → Storage → Clear storage. There is no remote copy — once cleared, it's gone.
Security
Your health database lives in Android's app-private storage. On a non-rooted device, no other app can read it. Phreep does not export this database unless you explicitly tap "Backup DB → Downloads" or "Export to Health Connect".
Your control
- Wipe all data: Android Settings → Apps → Phreep → Storage → Clear storage.
- Forget your band: Me tab → Settings → Device → Forget Band.
- Uninstall: removes the app, the database, and all preferences. Nothing survives.
- Refund: within 48 hours of purchase, use Google Play's self-service refund. After that, email support@phreep.com to request a refund.
